BIRD SHOOTING
We offer bird shoots in three distinct areas of South Africa The Cape Provence, Kwazulu-Natal and Orange Free State. It is possible to bird shoot in South Africa for most of the year as one area closes another opens
The Species available are Sand-grouse, various species of Francolin, Spur-fowl, Guinea-fowl, Doves, Pigeons and a wide variety of Ducks and Geese.
Although the birds are abundant the bag limits are strictly controlled.
Shoots are 3 - 10 duration and can be arranged in conjunction to other hunts and package hunts.
BIRD SHOOTING BOTSWANA
In Botswana we are hosted by Gavin and Vickie Richards who own Kanana Wilderness Safaris near Ghanzi in the Kalahari Desert. The area is famous for the huge concentrations of Sand-grouse that fly in morning and evening to water. August through October are the best hunting months.
This is an extremely challenging shoot as these fast flying birds swoop and wheel as they come in to land at the water points.
The Kalahari is also home to the San People who are also known as the Bushman. The area provides excellent plains game hunting for a variety of species
The comfortable tented camp at Kanana is situated on a small pan where it is possible to view game coming to drink in early mornings and evenings. A short photographic Safari into the Okavango Delta can be arranged for interested parties.
BIRD SHOOTING ORANGE FREE STATE
Kroonstad, a town in the middle of the Maize Triangle with a population of over 7 million Pigeon, is two hours drive south of Johannesburg or two hours north of Bloemfontein. Here we are hosted by Andre Du Toit who will astound you with his shotgun skills and accommodated at Lechwe Lodge which is the starting and ending point of the day’s activities. Field lunches are provided daily. Apart from high volume pigeon shooting Kroonstad is also home good numbers of waterfowl and upland birds. Notable here are the Orange River Francolin, which handle well to the dogs. Good Quantities of Guinea-fowl are present and are both driven and walked up. We move regularly in concert with the changing flight paths of the birds.
For interested parties plains game stalking is available in this area.
Observers can take side trips to nearby Gold Reef City, and local Game Parks
Climate: Situated on a vast highland plateau in the Free State, this area is characterised by cool clear winters and hot summer days with local thunderstorms bringing rain in the afternoons. The cool dry air makes sunscreens a must and, as the midday temperatures in winter often get over twenty five degrees centigrade shirtsleeves are the order of the day.

BIRD SHOOTS CAPE PROVENCE SOUTH AFRICA
At Doornfontein one and a half hours drive up the west coast from Cape Town we are hosted by Nick and Perta Melk. Nick who's family has been in the area since the 1700's runs the shoot whilst Perta takes care of every thing else making sure that you every need is catered for.
The season in the Western Cape opens in March for Guinea-fowl, Francolin Sand-grouse and Spur-fowl whilst Ducks and Geese in this area are open most of the year. It is also possible to shoot rock pigeons and doves at the beginning of the season (February and March) in Durban-ville area just outside Cape
For the more adventurous it is possible to arrange a driven Ostrich Shoot.
When you combine the the breathtaking scenery of the Atlantic Ocean Pounding the African Shore with spectacular shooting and gourmet meals served with fine wine you will have an unforgettable African experience.
BIRD SHOOTS IN TANZANIA
The hunt takes place from a tented camp in Masai-land with Rainer Josch Safaris. This area not far from Arusha offers excellent shooting for Guinea-fowl Francolin and thousands upon thousand Sand-grouse.
Here the season runs from August through to the end of October
A trip to the Ngorongoro Wildlife Sanctuary can be arranged at the end of the shoot.
BIRD SHOOTS KWAZULU-NATAL
Bonani is our venue in Kwazulu-Natal. This area seeped in Boer War history offers excellent Guinea-fowl shooting with francolin, doves, pigeons and various species of ducks and geese
In July and August vast numbers of birds are attracted to the ripening crops.
Bonani offers stalking of various species of plans game animals.
Shooting parties are accommodated at Bullers Rest Guest House over looking Lady Smith. Owners Andy and Sheila Breedt entertain us in their Boer War Museum Pub and if we are lucky we may be offered port from the cellars below the museum.
Climate: Winter days are mild and sunny, although early mornings in the duck blinds can be chilly. Layered clothing is a must as temperatures can reach lower seventies by noon.
